Last Friday we received the sad news that Diny van Ernst passed away, aged 74. Diny joined GVC in
1975 because her daughter Anja played football with GVC since 1973. At that time (early seventies)
in Wageningen women’s football was only possible with GVC. Also her husband, Frans, and their
other daughter Mary joined GVC as respectively trainer and player. As a result the whole family Van
Ernst was member of GVC. Under leadership of Diny and Frans the GVC women became, almost
every year, champion in the KNVB competitions in which they participated. In addition, GVC ladies
played for the Dutch national Championship in 1976 and 1977. Two times GVC became the second
best football team of the Netherlands (women). Corrie Welgraven, Winnifred Tel and Tonny Boom
(GVC) were selected for the Dutch national team (Oranje).
Frans van Ernst left GVC in 1980 and became sport physiotherapist for ONA’53 (also a football club in
Wageningen). Diny stayed with GVC and was 25 years (1980-2005) a steady and dedicated board
member. Without her efforts GVC would no longer exist.
The Board is grateful for all the efforts Diny did for GVC and we wish her family much strength to
cope with this sad loss.
On Monday, April 18 there is an opportunity to personally condole the family at the auditorium of
the cemetery Leeuwenenk (Oude Diedenweg 64, Wageningen) between 19 and 1945 o’clock.
The funeral will be Tuesday 19 April, 12:45 o’clock. Location: crematorium Slingerbos (Slingerboslaan
15, Ede)
